What does an IT project manager actually do at BITS?
– An interview with our Senior Consultant & IT Project Manager Andrea. –
“Basically, we’re preparing to migrate each application from one data center to the other, from hardware to various tests and taking down the old servers.”
Andrea joined BITS in 2021 as a senior consultant & IT project manager. She joined us after 15 years of professional experience in numerous management positions, primarily in the energy industry. We spoke with 2022 about her deep expertise, how she got started at BITS, and her day-to-day work with us.
BITS:
Andrea:
“I am Andrea and I have about 15 years of professional experience in various fields, mainly in the energy industry. I have filled numerous management positions. Now I’m excited to take on more complex projects at BITS, using my 360° knowledge of project management.“
BITS:
Andrea:
“Basically, it was a private contact. As a social science graduate, I’m extremely grateful for this coincidence, because it gave me a change of industry that I’m very happy about today.”
BITS:
Andrea:
“My start was great. I felt very welcome, experienced a lot of appreciation and got to know a nice team. In addition, I got a lot of creative freedom for my own tools and management skills right from the start.”
BITS:
Andrea:
“At the moment, I am in charge of a migration project for a large automotive group. In the current phase, we have arrived at the production-relevant applications, which means a very varied workday and a high level of work from everyone involved. My job title is currently Move Manager, which means a high level of coordination work. At the same time, you have to familiarize yourself with the technical understanding of the respective applications, the necessary next steps and to-dos in each case. Basically, we prepare the migration of the individual applications from one data center to the other, from the hardware to various tests and the dismantling of the old servers.”
BITS:
Andrea:
“What I like about BITS is that we are growing, the flat hierarchies, the high degree of creative freedom and the high level of positive feedback when you contribute. The interaction is just totally appreciative and I like that a lot.”
BITS:
Andrea:
“Just do it – you certainly won’t make a mistake with it. Go for it! I would always recommend starting out in a medium-sized company anyway, because the learning curve there is enormous.
BITS:
Andrea:
“I’d love to!”
