Future approaches, opportunities and risks through the use of artificial intelligence (AI) in the IT workplace

As part of the TechDays in Munich and at several on-site events, BITS highlighted the opportunities and risks of artificial intelligence (AI) in the IT workplace.

Exciting proof of concepts were presented to demonstrate how AI can revolutionize IT quality assurance, customer support, software development processes and documentation creation.
Examples were used to show how AI can be used with confidence and how large language models (LLMs) can be trained and fine-tuned with open source software both in the cloud and on-prem to meet individual requirements.

“I thought your presentation was really good and convincing. In particular, the fact that you also pointed out limitations and provided honest information about the situation. As a customer, this would inspire absolute confidence in me.”

Challenge

The implementation of AI systems requires a high degree of trust and transparency in order to ensure user acceptance.
Clear communication about the risks and limitations of the technology is necessary to create realistic expectations.
Another aspect is the necessary resources associated with the local training of LLMs.
The availability of suitable data and sufficient computing capacity poses an additional challenge.
In addition, AI technologies are developing rapidly, which means that solutions that are still considered state-of-the-art today may be outdated tomorrow.
This requires continuous learning and adaptation in order to remain competitive.
The black box nature of LLMs poses a further challenge.
It is often not fully understandable how these models arrive at their results, which can affect confidence in the technology.
Special approaches to verification and validation are therefore required.

  • Trust and transparency: High acceptance requires trust and clear communication.

  • Risks and limits: Create realistic expectations through clear communication.

  • Resources and costs: Local LLM training requires high resources and costs.

  • Data availability: Suitable data and computing capacities are required.

  • Fast-moving technology: Rapid development requires continuous learning.

  • Competitiveness: Adaptation necessary to remain competitive.

  • Black box character: Lack of transparency of LLMs can impair trust.

  • Validation: Special approaches to verification required.

Opportunities and risks through the use of AI

“We need to understand ChatGPT – and similar technologies – as a tool, be aware of the opportunities and risks – and use it responsibly. This technology is here to stay.”

Conclusion

In our presentations, we showed that the responsible use of AI technologies is not only possible, but can also be extremely beneficial for companies.

Despite the many challenges, the targeted use of AI can achieve significant improvements in the efficiency and quality of IT processes.

The TechDays in Munich and the on-site BITS events provided an ideal platform for presenting this potential and boosting confidence in possible application scenarios.

  • Responsible use of AI: Possible and beneficial for companies.

  • Improved efficiency: Significant increases in efficiency through the targeted use of AI.

  • Quality improvement: AI significantly improves the quality of IT processes.

  • Practical demonstrations: Proof of concepts showed practical benefits.

  • Future-oriented: Continuous learning and adaptation required.

  • Ensuring competitiveness: AI use strengthens competitiveness.
